Sean Drake Wins WPTDS Reno ($56,581)

Sean Drake topped a field of 251 players to win the WPTDeepStacks Reno Main Event on Monday night at the beautiful Atlantis Casino Resort Spa here in Reno, Nevada. Drake was awarded $56,581 in prize money, a $3,000 Championship package, and the WPTDeepStacks trophy after winning a final table that clocked in at just under 5 hours of play today.

Coming into the day it was Hank Czarnecki with the chip lead, and Czarnecki continued to climb as he built his stack to nearly two million through the eliminations of Billy Wilson (9th), Bill Watchmen(8th), and Babe Prescott (7th). Following Prescott’s elimination it was Sean Drake who started to gain momentum, taking a few pots off Czarnecki. After the exit of Jose Rodriguez in 6th, it was Czarnecki hitting the rail in 5th. Kenny Mills would be our fourth place finisher, leaving us three handed between Mike Harvey, Wesley Hickey, and Sean Drake.

Three handed play saw a ton of chips splashing around the table, but eventually it would be Wesley Hickey exiting in 3rd, when his ace-eight, couldn’t best the pocket nines of Harvey. The hand would leave Harvey with an over 2-1 chip lead heading into heads up play.

The lead wouldn’t last long though as Drake won a flip when his deuces held all in pre flop, against the ace-nine of Harvey. The double up would put the two nearly identical in chips until a big flip would see Drake take a massive chip lead. The two got into a 6,000,000 chip pot when Drake’s ace-jack bested the pocket tens of Harvey, leaving Harvey with just one big blind. Drake would wake up with two queens the next hand to put the dagger in Harvey, eliminating him from the tournament. Harvey takes home $39,702 for his deep run here at Atlantis and Sean Drake is the newest WPTDS Champion!
