Salomon Ponte topped a field of 1,684 players to win the WPTDeepStacks Hollywood Main Event on Monday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Ponte was awarded $341,420 in prize money and the WPTDeepStacks trophy after winning a final table that clocked in at just under 4 hours of play today. Action was nonstop all day with Paul Balzano hitting the rail first, exiting in 9th place. Following Balzano out the door was Zack Goodman (8th), Ryan D’Angelo(7th), Michael LaRocca(6th), Kenneth Watson (5th) and Harrison Gimbel (4th). Three-handed play was pretty short as Thong Ho made his exit fairly soon after Gimbel.
After Gimbel was eliminated, the heads-up final didn’t last too long after that to decide a champion. Edward Mallon quickly chipped up to take a commanding lead, but after the 6h7c of Salomon ran down Mallon’s 9c9s. Following the hand the two managed to get it all in nearly 10 times before Salomon eventually got the best of Mallon, crowning Ponte the newest WPTDeepStacks Champion.
